Rehabilitation of the Dourbes tannery - Belgium
Free project: Choosing a new use for a tannery that has been abandoned for years in order to reintegrate this place into its territory.
I chose to make this place a social and artistic centre, with two floors of emergency housing, two floors of youth hostel and meeting spaces between these populations.
It was necessary to integrate spaces for the daily life of the people living there, and to facilitate their social reintegration.
The building therefore has a restaurant, work spaces and offices to accommodate the dedicated services.
I also chose to keep the destroyed part of the building, and to cover it with a glass "greenhouse", in order to install a winter garden accessible to travellers and residents and to dedicate part of the building to the Musée du petit format, which was actively looking for new premises.
